He is a past Chief of the Plastic Surgery Division at St. Dominic-Jackson Memorial Hospital and has served on the Surgery Committee at Woman's Hospital at River Oaks.  He currently serves as secretary for Plastic & Hand Surgery Associates.

Dr. Brantley grew up in his grandfather’s medical clinic which remains his parent’s home. As a child, his grandfather dispensed medicines and medical advice to long term patients who continued to seek his treatment even after his retirement. Having been exposed to this and receiving phenomenal encouragement from his parents, he pursued his education and medical degree with the same zeal he pursues life. While in medical school he was drawn to the surgical field, a field of medicine where results can be obtained with a single operation. It was plastic surgery though where he found his true love. The diversity of the cases, the interaction with the full gamut of patient personalities, and the opportunity to be an artist intrigued and inspired him. As he was seeking the location to complete his plastic surgery residency, one of the most important elements he was looking for was exposure to a wide range of cosmetic surgeries. Fortunately Dr. John Franklin, then Chairman at The University of Tennessee - Chattanooga, saw Dr. Brantley’s potential and invited him to train under the tutelage of a large group of plastic surgeons at an extremely busy county hospital. Herein, he could get vast exposure to traumatic and complex reconstructive wounds, but at the same time, these physicians enjoyed booming cosmetic practices and thus he was able to learn these operations prior to entering private practice. Since returning to the Jackson area in 1994, his emphasis from day one has been to build an aesthetic practice. His numbers speak to the success of that endeavor. He operates on over 690 patients annually; he sees around 850 new patients annually and has over 2300 follow-up visits annually. He enjoys a reputation among his peers as an excellent cosmetic and reconstructive surgeon. He receives accolades from all of the residents who rotate as part of their training at The University of Mississippi Medical Center as being one of the best instructors they have. (One can see this based on the testimonials on his web site.) He is actively involved in the day-to-day operations of the nine-man group of which he is a member. He is also extremely active in oversight of The Plastic Surgical Center of Mississippi. As a long standing member of the advertising committee, he enjoys the development and placement of PHSA’s advertising and has a specific interest in internet marketing.

He has been married to Beth Jordan for twenty years. He is blessed to have four beautiful children, Savannah 15, Alexis 12, Eliza 9, and Shelby III 5. He has a keen interest in duck hunting and wing shooting where he is a noted marksman. He also has an interest in real estate as he has been a founding member and lead to the development of three highly regarded hunting clubs in the Mississippi Delta. He and one of his partners developed the Montrose residential subdivision in Ridgeland and he owns commercial properties in the Jackson Metro area from Gluckstadt to Rankin County. He has two younger sisters, one in the banking industry and another who is a gynecologist in Flowood.

He and his family are members of Christ United Methodist Church. Often described as a work-a-holic, it is not uncommon to find him on a bulldozer or trackhoe when not at the office. Says Dr. Brantley, “I truly love what I do and I can only hope it reflects in the quality of my work”.
